Project Objective

The aim of the research project is to develop new methods for the operational integration of manufacturing and transport systems that deal better with uncertainties and dynamics arising from the real setting of these systems.

Risk management handles uncertainties that might become threats for a sustainable operation of manufacturing and transport processes. In the context of global manufacturing supply chains a comprehensive approach to risk management is missing. In detail, risk management actions should not only be considered for individual business functions on the strategic, tactical or operational level but also across collaborating companies. The subproject S1) aims to derive a comprehensive approach to risk management that is partly based on the findings of the subproject C5) in first funding phase. A key objective is to define a method that allows the identification of appropriate mitigation actions for dealing with the considerable uncertainty of global manufacturing supply chains. This method will take into account context-related differences and define the flexibility that should be added to manufacturing and transport systems.
